Carnival Horizon is packed with action and energy and, as the newest flagship of the Carnival Cruise Line fleet, it effortlessly grooves to the lively beat that Carnival is famous for.
More floating fun factory than cruise ship, it is poles apart from the traditional style of cruising and, as a result, appeals to a young buzzing crowd of mainly couples and families.
Like its sister ship Carnival Vista, which launched in 2016, Horizon has many of the same attractions; most notably the novel aerial cycling SkyRide, known as the “bike ride in the sky” and an impressive Imax Theatre for 3D film screenings.
These are in addition to its sports court, al fresco movie screen and top-deck ropes course that are virtually the same high quality that’s on larger resort-style ships, but Horizon has ramped up the fun factor even further with a clutch of new attractions.
The 3,934-passenger ship debuted earlier this year (April) with the first Dr Seuss WaterWorks park at sea, complete with waterslides that whizz riders into a kiddie splash zone of colorful fountains, water sprays and soak-inducing 300-gallon tipping bucket.
Those who don’t fancy getting wet can dive into the ship’s enlarged shopping area containing the first Victoria’s Secret store at sea along with designer brands including Michael Kors, Hublot and Kate Spade.

Carnival Horizon actually features two movie theaters next door to one another, and we call the whole great big thing Carnival Multiplex. Behind door number one is an actual IMAX Theatre in all its huge-screen, huge-fun glory. And behind door number two? Thrill Theater lives there, and you’re invited to the 3D experience where jump-off-the-screen visuals are only the beginning of a, shall we say, truly moving experience.
Splash into big-fun and way-whimsy — you could, you would, and you definitely should at Dr. Seuss WaterWorks, only aboard Carnival Horizon. When you open the book of vacation fun, flip directly to “completely soaking wet” — this onboard waterpark is where you’ll find your favorite Dr. Seuss characters making a splash. The centerpiece is the two big slides: The Cat’s Hat slide takes you twisting down the red and white stripes of the world’s most famous top-hat, while the Fun Things slide take you through all the topsy-turvy of having the blue-haired pair appear in your living room. With side-by-side racing slides, splashy water-spray toys and a giant tipping top-hat, Dr. Seuss WaterWorks on Carnival Horizon features fun fit for a red fish, a blue fish… a you fish!
Somebody at Carnival knows just what you need, and it’s pretty much exactly the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat. Look, you’ll still be on the same ship as the kids, the hoopla, and all the Carnival-style excitement… but you could easily forget, because when you’re at Serenity you could not be further from it all. The world you’ll find yourself in is one of complete peace, sea breezes, swaying hammocks and, of course, a nearby bar. It’s the place to get done the kind of stuff you just can’t seem to do anywhere else — reconnect with your partner, finish that book, or do absolutely, blissfully, nothing at all.
True or false: cruises are a time for relaxation. Our answer: whether you’re all action all the time, or chill to the core, everybody needs a chance to take it easy! And nobody will find an easier spot than Cloud 9 Spa aboard Carnival Horizon. This is an oasis built from the ground up for relaxation, from a full complement of traditional spa services like massages, facials, body wraps to the carefully-designed climates of Cloud 9’s thermal suites… rooms swirling with moist or dry air, each heated very precisely. It turns out it’s true: anyone can find a reason to say “ahhh” at Carnival Horizon’s Cloud 9 Spa.
The mic is off, but the battle is on… Carnival Horizon. Lip Sync Battle: Carnival, a stage version of the hit Spike TV series, features a series of competitions to see who can truly channel their inner superstar, and make the crowd go wild. Fight your way to the finals, where you’ll get music, lighting, props, choreographers and even backup dancers to elevate your performance. But the attitude — superstar, diva, rockstar — that is all you. So get up there and work it, twerk it, give it all you got. And if you turn out to be the ultimate mover-and-shaker, you’ll be taking home an exclusive gift!
When was the last time you got up and grooved… at the theater? Playlist Productions takes songs you know and presents them like never before. Multi-talented performers absolutely bring down the house with song, dance… and superstar attitude. Each show has a different theme — and of course, a completely different playlist! Put your hands together for Soulbound’s New-Orleans-flavor R&B-style mysticism, Celestial Strings’ unique take on classical music (giving it a beat!), the classic-Latino sizzle of Amor Cubano… plus you’re definitely welcome to Prohibition-era-jazz-meets-modern-hits at Vintage Pop. All shows enhance the performance with stunning visual effects, but some even include a live band on stage! So get ready for heartfelt emotions, straight-up bouncy fun, or something in-between — all types are welcome to get down here.
The ship’s two-level mall-style shops are along the atrium on decks 4 and 5, with brands that guests will know and recognize like LeVian, Kate Spade, Victoria’s Secret, Hublot, and more.
In addition to offering the largest and most varied shopping choices in the fleet, Horizon‘s retail space is divided into areas dedicated to a particular shopping experience, including:
- Hip Fish – fashion jewelry, accessories, beauty, and fragrances
- Front Street – fine jewelry and timepieces
- Cherry on Top – the “sweetest spot on board” with candies, novelty items, and gifts
- Carnival Store – logo items and Horizon inaugural season memorabilia, as well as Carnival Adventures merchandise with everything guests need for fun onboard and ashore, like sunscreen and clothing
- Portside Liquor & Tobacco – popular duty-free items, including the most extensive spirits display at sea
On Carnival Horizon you’ll find the Havana Bar & Pool. Good find — the pool’s an exclusive retreat to paradise by day, and the bar becomes a hot dance spot when the sun goes down. Grab a seat at the bar and order up handcrafted Cuban cocktails like a traditional Daiquiri or classic Mojito. This bar is just steps from the pool, whose ocean view and atmosphere mingles with the bar’s own, for a bit of that old-time Cuban resort flavor.

Carnival Horizon Gratuity
Carnival Cruise Line automatically adds a $12.95 per person, per day gratuity to onboard accounts. (Suite passengers pay $13.95 per person per day.) The tips are split among the crew who serve you each day: room stewards, and waiters and assistant waiters, for example. Passengers can prepay gratuities before they board Carnival Horizon or adjust them at any point during their cruise by visiting the passenger service desk. The gratuity policy applies to passengers 2 years and older.
All bar bills and spa treatment purchases come with an automatic 15 percent gratuity, which is not optional. You can tip room service staff in cash — a buck or two is appropriate though not required.
Gratuity Fees can be included in payment plans.
No one doubts that a cruise is always a good time. But the excitement of stepping on board and checking out the ship’s cushy staterooms and amenities hits epic proportions when that ship is brand new. So, if you’re already planning your next vacation, it’s time to check out a virtual tour of Carnival’s newest ship, Carnival Horizon.
Naturally, Carnival Horizon will deliver all the best tastes, sights, sounds and experiences cruisers have come to love aboard Carnival’s existing fleet of cruise ships. But our newest vessel also introduces some exciting new features and promises an ocean of fun, whether you cruise to the Caribbean, or The Bahamas.
